Karen Tait


Karen started her working life in Bank Street, Castleford working Saturdays at a family friends shop. She attended Wakefield District College and spent ten years working in the service industry before starting a career in the 1990’s with the Environment Agency, formarly the National Rivers Authority.

Karen’s current role is Engagement Specialist working to ensure positive relationships with the Environment Agency’s customers and partners on environmental issues such as flood risk management, environmental regulation, biodiversity and nature conservation.

In 2003 Karen graduated Bradford University with a Batchelor of Arts Degree in Community Regeneration and Development. The same year she met inspirational Alison Drake MBE, resulting in a partnership with CHT and the Environment Agency to develop and realise the Natural Heritage Project (2006-2009) to include providing a fish pass and on the weir adjacent to Queens Mill and educational opportunities for local school children.

Karen lives in Wakefield, she is a keen gardener and family history researcher.
