A Brief History

Every time you walk through the door of Queen’s Mill you feel the presence of those people who have lived and worked on or near this site for over two thousand years making it the historic and iconic building it is today.

Situated on the banks of the River Aire it helps tell not just the story of flour milling in the town but also of the rise of Castleford during the industrial revolution and beyond into an important and prosperous manufacturing centre producing coal, pottery, glass, chemicals and textiles.
