OUR HERITAGE
We have a rich and varied heritage that we want to pass on to our
children and future generations. We want local people to be proud
of their roots and enjoy learning about life in our town over previous
generations and civilisations. We want community esteem so that local
children can grow in self-esteem and value their town and community
and in their turn grow up to take responsibility. We want them to
learn from the past to value education and the acquisition of skills
and knowledge.
OUR
VISION
Our heritage is more than our Roman archaeology and artefacts, and
the industrial collections of pottery, glass, pit banners and social
memorabilia. It is our stories, songs, dances, skills, values and
traditions; it is a part of who we are and gives us our roots and
our sense of identity and belonging.
We
feel that in order to be successful, strong and united, communities
need a sense of pride in, and an understanding of, their heritage. We
use and celebrate the rich and varied heritage of our town to teach
people today about where they have come from, and to give them pride
in the skills that were once used and the important role the town
has played through time.
The
events and celebrations are not just about the past, they create new
memories and shared experiences, and give townsfolk the opportunity
to create and share common interests and achievements.
CASTLEFORD
FORUM
To us the Castleford Forum is about creating a place in which the
community can do all these things in a quality and purpose-built environment.
It will provide us with an arena in which the community can come together
to teach and to learn about our heritage, and where we can properly
celebrate the town and its people, as well as leaving a legacy for
future generations, not just in the form of a unique building, but
also in a more united and vibrant community.
