Want to help make your environment a better place for wildlife and protect your natural heritage?
Here are some simple suggestions:

* Join your local community wildlife groups such as your Wildlife Trust or Conservation Volunteers. Start a local friends group to clean up a local park, stream, riverbank, or neglected area, being careful not to damage animal or plant habitats. It surprising where animals will decide to take up residence and how a rare plant can pop up in unexpected places.

* Take part in pond-clearance, or other such work - it's fun and great exercise.

* Always take your litter home

* Use peat alternatives for your garden and install a water butt.

* Never tip waste anywhere - Report pollution or fly-tipping in a watercourse that could increase flood risk on 0800 807060

* Save energy (and money) in the house and at work - and do your bit to help tackle climate change
